What is Birthday Cake Flavour anyway?

My Birthday Cake Flavour rating – up to five birthday cakes out of five – is based on how much like the traditional American birthday cake flavour it tastes.

For an example of this flavour, you could try the cream in the middle of US Birthday Cake Oreo’s, or the closest I have found in the UK is Fibre One’s Birthday Cake flavour.

It’s very heavy on the vanilla and preferably vanillin. There should be more sugar than normal, often found as sprinkles or other ever so slightly crunchy inclusions. Maybe there’s the slightest hint of buttercream in there too.

At risk of spoiling the rest of the site, it is not jam and buttercream “Victoria sponge” flavour, or whatever random strawberry flavour they decided to put in UK Birthday Party Oreo’s, or no flavour at all as long as you put coloured sprinkles in, or the abomination that is Ben and Jerry’s Birthday Cake Ice Cream.

The Birthday Cake Flavour movement has been impacted slightly by the unicorn flavour movement – from what I can tell it’s the same flavour, but aimed at a different demographic.

Below is pictured the pinnacle of my Birthday Cake flavour hunt – I’m ashamed now I didn’t get a better picture – but I found perfect Birthday Cake flavoured Birthday Cake in H-E-B in Waco, Texas.

I think we can all agree that this is the flavour we should be seeking.

(It was delicious)
