I can only put so much trust in a company like Rolling Pin Co. who feels the need to tell us they were established just five short years ago. I can understand WH Smith trying to shore up their tatty old stores by suggesting they haven’t been renovated since 1792. What are we meant to learn from Est 2017? “We have little experience in making biscuits”?
Still, these mini cookie bites (or mini cookies as anyone else would call them) are what the Maryland ones should be. The smell when you open the bag is strong and good – as you’d expect Birthday Cake to be… but with a little note of something that isn’t Birthday Cake. It might be the margarine that they have apparently used as the main fat. It’s not horrible, but neither is it great.

They look perfect though – the sprinkles are vividly coloured, and they may have “an adverse effect on activity and attention in children”, which is how you know you’re getting the good stuff. They’re just standard strand sprinkles and some of the cookies don’t have any near the surface.
The taste is also very Birthday Cake, but they also taste a lot of the flour and possibly the margarine too. They’re surprisingly dry and powdery, and you wouldn’t want to eat too many of them.
In short – a bit of a missed opportunity. Maybe they degraded a bit on their trip across the Atlantic. Or maybe Rolling Pin Co need more than five years experience in making biscuits.
